Your website can be the greatest looking site around but it may not do you much good if no one can find it.

Many design/hosting companies will do as they say and submit you to "zillions" of search engines. One time. Although that sounds good it doesn't really do a lot if you want anyone to find you on the web via the search engines. For one thing a one time submission will get you on those search engines, but not in a position that anyone will really find you. You see that will put you in position say 300 or more where no one will look. Also getting listed in hundreds or even thousands of search engines is not a productive way to be found since only the major search engines 10-15 of them are used by most people.

You can also bring people to your site by word of mouth, your yellow page ad, and including your .com address in printed materials you do for your business, like business cards, brochures, etc. However you may feel it necessary to have people find your site via the search engines.
